Day 2: Dinner Revisited

Just came across some phenomenal photos of the menu from dinner on Day 2 at the Red Rose Restaurant.  Rather than post them and make my Flickr page that much less legitimate, I’ll just type out the highlights:

  • The bottle pepsi cola [a bottle of Pepsi – pretty self-explanatory]
  • The bottle seve tup [a bottle of 7-Up]
  • The pepsi of cola can [a can of Pepsi]
  • The canister of sorit can [a can of Sprite – Sprite and 7-Up?!  What selection!!]
  • Socla water [soda water]
  • Tipsy Spirits [spirits that make you tipsy?]
  • Johnnie walker red label [duh]
  • Johnnie walker biack label [Johnny Walker Black Label]
  • Grant finest soth whisky [Grant Scotch Whisky]
  • Chicas regal pr emiurn snotch thisky  [Chivas Regal Premium Scotch Whisky]

I don’t really know why I get such joy out of this kind of stuff, but there it is.

Also, at lunch there was “Sauteed Rape with Black Mushrooms” available.

Day 4: Beijing – Nothing Happens

I don’t think anything happened on this day.  Obviously this is going to be a riveting post.  Between five cameras, there are no photos of day 4.  Since there are no photos of Day 4, here are two photos displaying the awe-inspiring posing talent of Chinese children.  The first is called The Neener-Neener.  The second, The T-Rex.

Day 2: Beijing; Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City

Breakfast.

Outside our hotel stands a small shack – really just a covered counter with a hot plate, where a man and his son make maybe the best thing ever invented: they make some sort of bread/crepe-type deal by spreading batter on a hot surface.  Then they poke a hole in it and pour some egg liquid inside and the egg fries in between the pillowy bread layers.  Then they smear plum sauce and chili sauce all over it, fold it up, and put it into a plastic bag.  Then you tear open the bag and eat the treasure on the bus while going to Tiananmen Square.  Breakfast is awesome.

Day 1: Beijing

I love the first few days of an epic trip – when you’re excited and nervous and a little bit lost.  When the drive from the airport is thrilling.  At some point you relax, adapt, slide into your role in this new place.  But those first few days…it’s thrilling.
